Cats have always been a shroud of mystery to some, due to their peculiar habits, "liquid" nature, bleps & weird videos that you may see online.

However, cuteness overload aside, let us seriously discuss & debunk 6 common myths about the awesome creature that is the Cat.

Myth #1: Cats always land on their feet:

While cats are known for their agility and ability to often land on their feet, this myth is not entirely true. Cats can still get injured from falls, especially from great heights. Their ability to reorient themselves mid-fall doesn't guarantee they'll always escape unscathed. Their super flexibility is due to the feline shoulder blade being attached to the rest of the body only by muscles & not by bone, giving the shoulder blade tremendous freedom to move as the cat moves, extending its running stride even more. Unlike the long anchored collarbone we humans have, cats have tiny rudimentary collarbones that contribute to their ability to squeeze through tight openings(https://www.ccmr.cornell.edu/faqs/why-are-cats-so-flexible/). Don’t even get me started about cats having 9 lives. Obviously, they only live once like us.

Myth #2: Cats are low-maintenance pets:

While cats can be more independent than some other pets as they spend many hours of their lives sleeping, they still require care & attention. They need proper nutrition, regular veterinary check-ups, playtime, love & companionship. Regular visits to the vet can help catch health issues early, prevent diseases & ensure your cat's overall well-being.

Myth #3: Cats are solitary creatures & don't need social interaction:

Many cats may enjoy the solo life, but they can also be social animals that enjoy human & other animal companionship. Many cats thrive when they receive attention, play & interact with people. This is why if you are adopting kittens, always adopt a pair to entertain each other & learn from each other.

Myth #4: Cats will destroy all your furniture:

Cats scratch primarily to expel energy, maintain their claws, mark their territory & stretch their muscles. Providing appropriate scratching posts & surfaces such as cat condos or cat trees, with ample play time can redirect this behavior away from furniture.

Myth #5: Cats are nocturnal animals:

Contrary to popular belief, cats aren't nocturnal, i.e. active at night such as bats & owls. Cats are crepuscular, which means they are most active during dawn & dusk. This is why they are most active when you go to bed & do their zoomies (bursts of energy in the form of marathons) in the wee hours of the morning.

Myth #6 Cats love milk & fish:

Contrary to popular belief, many adult cats are lactose intolerant & can't digest milk properly. Feeding them milk can lead to diarrhea & upset stomach, which is why pet milk is available on the market. Some cats can also have food sensitivities to certain proteins, including fish & seafood.
